Cross County Trail Marathon and Half Marathon

Unknown-5The inaugural Cross County Trail Marathon and Half Marathon was definitely a memorable event with the rain and revised course due to the high water level at the Braddock Road under crossing. Everyone enjoyed wading through the newly named Frank’s Gully which will hopefully not be full of water in future races. The second annual Cross County Trail Marathon and Half is set for Veterans Day November 11th, 2015. The marathon and half marathon will start at 8:00AM. This event will take place in its entirety in Virginia on a 3.28 mile section of the Cross County Trail surfaced by pavement, crushed stone, and dirt.

Course Info

Unknown-6Updated 8/25/15. The race will use 3.28 miles of the Cross County Trail in Lake Accotink. The original plan was to use 6.56 miles of the trail in both the Lake Accotink and Wakefield Parks, but a construction project to pave a mile of the trail south of Braddock Road has forced a change in course for the 2015 event. Information on the improvement project can be viewed at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/press/html/psa046-15.htm

The race start/finish will be at the Lake Accotink front entrance parking lot. Runners will run north on the trail for .9 miles until reaching the north course turnaround. At this point runners will turn around and head south for 3.28 miles on the trail until reaching the course south turnaround point. Upon reaching the south turnaround point runners will turn around and head north to the start/finish. Upon reaching the start/finish runners will have completed one loop of the course. Half marathon runners will complete two loops of the course to complete their race, and marathon runners will complete four loops of the course to complete their race. The course is fairly flat with about 494 feet of elevation gain and loss in the half marathon and about 988 feet of gain and loss in the marathon.
