Altis Marathon and Half Marathon on the Tanglefoot Trail®

Altis Tanglefoot

It was a fantastic day at the fifth and final Altis Marathon and Half Marathon. The runners were super, the volunteers were excellent, and the weather was fantastic. Another race organization might decide to direct a race on this superb section of the Tanglefoot Trail® in 2019. If that happens the information for that race will be posted here.

USATF Certified Courses! The marathon certification is MS15002MS, and the certification can be viewed on the USATF web page here. The half marathon certification is MS15001MS, and the certification can be viewed here.

The race will take place on paved rail trail. The start/finish is located on the trail where the trail crosses Industrial Drive on the north side of Houston, MS. Registration

Runners can also register at packet pickup on Saturday night March 17th or on race morning.

Altis is very good at estimating the total number of race shirts needed and the size of the shirts needed for entrants on race day. With that said, however, runners who enter the race after the shirt order is placed on March 11th are not guaranteed their first choice of shirt size.

This event takes place on the Tanglefoot Trail® – a scenic paved rail trail in northern Mississippi. Packet Pickup

Packet pickup and race day registration will commence on race day at 6:45 AM at the start/finish.

Saturday night pre-race packet pickup is also at the start/finish at 202 Industrial Drive Houston, MS from 6:00-7:00PM. Runners who pick up their race packet on Saturday night also receive an Altis pint glass.

Just over 30 minutes away from the start/finish are the numerous hotels of Tupelo.

Course Info

This race takes place on the flat and scenic paved Tanglefoot Trail®. Runners will head north on the trail for 6.56 miles before turning around to head south back to the start. Half marathon runners will cross the finish line at this point to complete their race. Marathon runners will turn around and complete another out and back on the course to complete the marathon. There is approximately 89 feet of elevation gain and loss in the half marathon and 178 feet of gain and loss in the marathon.

Proceeds

This event supports the Tanglefoot Trail®. The 2014 to 2017 events have raised more than $1300 for the Tanglefoot Trail®, $3100 for the the Houston High (HOSA) students who staff the great event aid stations, and $50 for Historic Hometown Houston.

Aid Stations

Aid station locations for the half are at miles 1.4, 3.5, 4.5, 6.6, 8.6, 9.6, and 11.7.

The usual race food will be provided at the aid stations, ie. cookies, chips, water, and Gatorade.  It is recommended that runners bring their own energy gels, electrolytes, and water bottle to the race as needed.

Cutoffs

Runners have seven hours to complete the marathon and six and half hours to complete the half marathon.

All finishers will receive quality Steel Images finisher medals.

Refunds/Transfers/Miscellaneous

As is the case with most races, there will be no refunds of entry fees to entrants. Transfers of race bibs from one runner to another is also not allowed. If the race fills there will not be a waiting list.
